Former Republican Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin is continuing to flirt with a return to public office, stoking those flames last week by attending a function for GOP governors.
Bevin was seen last week at the Republican Governors Association (RGA) conference in Nashville, Tennessee – the same conference Mike Lindell, the My Pillow guy, was barred from entering.
Bevin reportedly worked the room at the GOP event, according to a source who was in attendance. A spokesperson for the RGA did not return a phone call or email seeking to verify Bevin’s attendance at the event.
As Kentucky Fried Politics was the first to report, Bevin has been making phone calls in the past months and is working at rekindling his old network aimed at making a potential return to public office.
The RGA played big for Bevin both in his 2015 win and in his 2019 loss, dumping millions in Kentucky on ads. The group spent a reported $1.6 million during the final two weeks of the 2015 contest on top of the $3 million already spent in Kentucky that year. In 2019, the RGA backed up a bank truck to the state border unloading nearly $9 million in ads in support of Bevin.
Bevin lost the 2019 re-election contest to Democrat Andy Beshear. Bevin could seek a return to the post in 2023 when Beshear is up for re-election. Before becoming governor, Bevin sought to unseat U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, challenging the Senator in the 2014 GOP primary.
