Sen. Matt Castlen Will Not Seek Re-Election

Owensboro Republican Sen. Matt Castlen has announced he will not seek to return to Frankfort in the 2022 Election.

In a posting on social media, Castlen said he was stepping back from public office to spend time with his three children and wife.

“I am blessed by God to be the father to three children who are growing so fast,” he wrote. “It seems like the blink of an eye, and they are 11, 8, and 5 years old. They, along with my wife, Laura, are my priority. This time of life is quickly passing us by. I will be devoting my time and energy to our family, raising the next generation to love the Lord and love our Nation.”

Castlen won election to the state Senate in 2018 after former longtime Sen. Joe Bowen, R-Owenboro, retired. The 8th Senate District represents Kentuckians in Daviess, Hancock, and McLean County. He served in the state House of Representatives for a term prior to winning the Election and replacing Bowen.

“I look forward to my time with my family and to the future when Lord willing, I will serve the Commonwealth once again,” Castlen said.
