State Sen. Morgan McGarvey, D-Louisville, is the first on the air in the Democratic primary to replace current Congressman John Yarmuth, who is retiring at the end of the year.
The ad, titled Uphill, references the battle he faces in the state legislature as just one of eight Democrats in the upper chamber.
McGarvey uses the ad to highlight progressive bills he has passed as the Minority Floor Leader, and promises to fight for criminal justice reform, legalized marijuana, paid family leave, and action on climate change if elected to Congress.
“If that’s an uphill battle, I’m ready for the fight,” McGarvey says in the ad.
McGarvey has been endorsed by Yarmuth, and virtually every big name Democrat in Louisville. He faces state Rep. Attica Scott for the Democratic nomination on May 17.
