Congressman Massie Files for Re-Election

Hours after Kentucky Fried Politics posted a filing watch on Friday, Congressman Thomas Massie appeared in Frankfort to make his re-election official.

Massie, R-Garrison, was flanked by state Rep. Savannah Maddox, R-Dry Ridge, as he filed out his paper work with the Kentucky Secretary of State.

This election season Massie has already drawn two Republican challengers, including one who is running to the right of the libertarian Republican. Claire Wirth, a Republican from Oldham County, has filed to raise money with the Federal Election Commission but has yet to file her state candidacy paperwork. Wirth is tying herself to former President Donald Trump, and garnering attention with gun giveaways to campaign donors.

A lesser known Republican from Corinth, Kentucky, George Washington has also filed to run in the 4th District Congressional Race with the Kentucky Secretary of State.

Rep. Savannah Maddox, R-Dry Ridge, has not yet filed to retain her state House seat. She appeared with Massie, but according to filings did not fill out her own paperwork. Many expect her to be a candidate for governor, but she will need to seek another term in her current post in 2022 before seeking the nomination for governor in 2023.
