Congressman Comer Will Have a GOP Primary in 2022

Repubican U.S. Rep. James Comer will have to fend off his right-flank next year against a former GOP county chairman.

David Sharp, the former Hopkins County Republican Party Chairman has told local news outlets in the 1st Congressional District that he intends to primary Comer next year.

In an interview with The Messenger, Sharp told the newspaper Kentuckians deserve better representation in Congress. Sharp said he is planning on challenging Comer based on the direction of the country, adding being a full-time politician should not be a career.

If elected, Sharp is promising to push for a term-limits in Congress.

Comer is intending to seek another term in Congress and is in line to be the next chairman of the House Oversight Committee if Republicans take control of the lower chamber in 2022.
