Congressman Barr Endorses Russell Coleman in Attorney General Race

U.S. Rep. Andy Barr, R-Lexington, has joined a growing list of GOP supporters for the only person currently in the race for state Attorney General.

Barr endorsed former Western District U.S. Attorney Russell Coleman in the race for the open seat of Attorney General next year.

Coleman works at Frost, Brown, Todd in Louisville, but has deep connections to U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, who Coleman previously served as general counsel. McConnell is openly supporting Coleman, and sources say he is blocking avenues for other potential top tier Republicans to enter the primary race.

Scott Jennings, another member of “Team Mitch,” who runs RunSwitch PR, is working for Coleman in the race for AG.

There is speculation that Democratic state Rep. Pamela Stevenson will join the race for Attorney General. Stevenson is a retired U.S. Air Force Colonel elected to the state House of Representatives in 2020. She is uncontested this year in her bid for re-election.

While in the Air Force she served as a judge advocate (JAG) representing America. Stevenson is also the founder of a nonprofit law center that helps veterans, the elderly, and working families.
