Army Vet Plans GOP Primary Against Congressman Brett Guthrie

Second District U.S. Rep. Brett Guthrie, R-Bowling Green, will have to defend his right flank in the 2022 election season as Shepherdsville, Kentucky, Republican Chris Henning announced his intent to primary the incumbent Congressman.

Describing himself as a patriot not a politician, Henning, a 24-year Army veteran, is expected to run to the right of Guthrie in the GOP primary.

“I do not have all the answers, but what I do know is that I am mad,” Henning wrote on his campaign website. “I am scared for my kids, and I am willing to stand up and fight for everything good about America. I hope others will stand with me.”

Henning has served three combat tours during his service with the Army.

The 2nd Congressional District currently includes Owensboro and stretches through Fort Knox to Danville and south to Bowling Green.

Guthrie also has a history of military service, he is a graduate of West Point and served in the 101st Airborne from 1987 – 1990. The Bowling Green Republican has represented the district since 2009.
