Louisville businessman Stuart Ray, the founder and CEO of a scrap metal management service and transportation company has quietly launched his campaign for the 3rd Congressional District seat in Louisville.
The 59-year-old has filed with the Federal Election Commission to raise money for the open-seat race and launched a campaign website this week.
Ray first confirmed to Kentucky Fried Politics that he was interested in the race to replace Congressman John Yarmuth, D-Louisville. In early November, Ray said he was concerned about inflation and the economy.
Ray is no stranger to Kentucky politics. He was appointed in 2010 as a Commission member to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. And he has donated to both Democrats and Republicans, including to Democratic Louisville Mayoral candidate Craig Greenberg.
There are already two Democrats who have announced campaigns for the Democratic primary in May of 2022, state Sen. Morgan McGarvey and state Rep. Attica Scott.
None of the candidates have filed with the Secretary of State for the 2022 election.
